    Description

Here we have a rare find, this is a pair of either Sugar or Food tongs, as they do not have claws, rather a round cup on the ends. They are marked inside each arm, I Reed & Son. The back is monogramed RAS. I can't find any Sterling marks but I am confident it is Sterling Silver, with a marking as old as I Reed & Son, not to be confused with Reed & Barton. A little research shows that Isaac Reed was active as a watchmaker and silversmith in Frankford and Philadelphia from 1800-1830. He was succeeded in 1830 by his son Osman Reed who was active from 1831 to 1850. The silver stamp was styled as "O. Reed & Co." after 1840. The tongs measures 6 1/4" in length, and are 1" wide at the widest point of the arms. A little over 2oz of Silver, but I am not selling these just for scrap. There is some tarnishing in spots consistent with it's age. Overall very good condition. Please see photos. Enjoy!
